BoC upgrades technology
To keep pace with advancements in technology, and harness
ever-growing volumes of data affecting the banking industry, the Bank of
Ceylon (BoC) has upgraded its hardware platform to IBM Power Systems
servers with POWER7+ technology.
As the bank's primary live and DR (Disaster Recovery) servers, the
new Power 770 servers replace IBM iSeries e Servers running several
business critical applications including BoC's core banking application.
BoC now owns one of the most powerful IBM Power Systems servers in
Sri Lanka.
The project was handled by Blue Chip Technical Services (Pvt) Ltd, an
IT solutions provider.Director, Blue Chip Technical Services, Sentil
Murugan said, “We are proud to bring the latest IBM Power 770 servers to
Sri Lanka and we congratulate the Bank of Ceylon for being the first in
the country to embrace this technology.
We consider this as a testimonial to Blue Chip's advanced technical
capabilities and proof of the excellent customer service provided to
Bank of Ceylon over the past 15 years.”
Head of IT, Bank of Ceylon, Luxman Perera said, “The bank's
commitment to benchmark Sri Lanka's banking industry in technological
advances and our pledge to deliver world-class customer service spurred
us to upgrade to IBM's Power 770 servers.
We selected IBM Power Systems because they provide the reliability
and security we need for customers’ private and most critical
information.”
“Upgrading and implementation of new technology requires a reliable
and efficient IT partner and we identified Blue Chip Technical Services
as the most reliable IBM Business Partner in Sri Lanka which maintains
its position through continuous excellence in support services along
with the certified skills required. Customers can expect more secure,
reliable and speedy service with this new advancement,” he said.

IBM Power 770 servers use next-generation POWER7+ processor technology
that is designed to deliver unprecedented performance, scalability,
reliability and manageability for demanding commercial workloads.”
IBM Power 770 servers are virtualised from within for better
integration and support growth without disrupting business -- all in a
modular, economically efficient design.
The upgrade of Bank of Ceylon's IBM iSeries e Servers ensures that
all the other application software deployed on the servers including
core banking applications will be updated to the latest versions.
This will provide the facility to access more advanced features which
provide secured, fast and reliable services to customers.
