Sri Lanka will launch its first nuclear project,
a multipurpose gamma radiation plant established and supervised
under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), early next
month. The acquisition of atomic energy for non-destructive
industrial applications had been on the cards since 2006.

FDI inflows from Jan-Sept 2013 hit US$ 870 million
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows from
January to September 2013 have hit US$ 870 million, a 41 percent
increase compared to the US$ 615 million FDI inflows for the
corresponding period in 2012. The cumulative FDI inflow to Sri Lanka
from 1978 up to the third quarter of 2013 amounted to US$ 9,397
million of which 70 percent FDIs.

Beware of ingesting MSD - Health officials
Avoid food items (cooked or uncooked) containing
monosodium glutamate (MSD) as they can cause serious health hazards,
health officials said. “MSD is a toxic substance and there is
scientific evidence to prove this. It also contains sodium which
raises blood pressure levels besides impacting adversely on the
nervous system,”
