World's first mobile App for Cerebral Palsy launched in Lanka
by Carol Aloysius
The Cerebral Palsy Lanka Foundation (CPLF) the country's first and
only organisation for children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) has launched a
mobile App on CP to help parents and caregivers to organisations
worldwide which are working in this same field. "It is a very simple App
and could be downloaded free from the Google store", founder and CPLF
Director Dr. Gopi Kitnasamy told the Sunday Observer. The mobile App is
the World's first on CP, he said.
He said that Sri Lanka had an estimated 40,000 people with Cerebral
Palsy and 17 million patients worldwide. CP refers to a group of
neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and
permanently affects body movement and muscle coordination. Cerebral
Palsy (CP) is caused by damage to or abnormalities in the developing
brain that disrupt the brain's ability to control movement and maintain
posture and balance. "This condition has no cure", he said.
The mobile App, launched on World Cerebral Palsy Day on October 2,
2013, was presented by CPLF at the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy
and Developmental Medicine, Milwaukee, USA in the same month.
"It provides useful and important information about several
frequently asked topics on Cerebral Palsy and connects people to
organisations around the world, working for persons with CP. It also has
links to other websites", he said. "The CPLF is working on the iphone
version of this App which will be launched soon", he said. |
