Cinnamon cultivation promoted

The Department of Export Agriculture has initiated measures to promote cinnamon cultivation in the Southern region. According to Director Research, Cinnamon Research Center at Palolpitiya, Thihagoda K.G.G. Wijesinhe newly introduced cinnamon strains of Sri Gemunu and Sri Vijaya have been very popular among the cinnamon growers in the district of Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

He said novel methods of cultivation, nursery control, addressing issues affecting both cultivators and their cultivations,scientific methods of growing cinnamon and new methodologies of enhancing the production capacity have also been introduced to farmers by the Cinnamon Research Center.
