Tourism promotion drive in Matara

The Ruhunu Tourist Bureau has launched an extensive and accelerated tourism promotion drive in the Southern region.

Under the program the Madunagala Hot Spring Project at Sooriyawewa in the district of Hambantota has already been developed as a tourist attraction. Tourist Information Centers have been set up in Galle and Bentara in the district of Galle.

The Ruhunu Tourist Bureau has also taken steps to set up a Tourist Information Centre at Deniyaya in the district of Matara anew.

According to Chairman U.G. Piyadasa attached to Ruhunu Tourist Bureau the Deniyaya region in the Matara district is well-known as an area of local and foreign tourist attraction. The new tourist information center will be constructed off the Deniyaya main town. The preliminary development activities relating to the project have already got under way and all constructions work will be completed by the middle of 2014.

The construction cost is Rs.6.5 million. Funds are provided by the Ruhunu Tourist Bureau.

More tourist arrivals are anticipated in the Southern province with these latest developments in tourism in the region. raising a better income for the country's coffers would be the main aim and objective of these endeavours Ruhunu Tourist Bureau, Chairman U.G. Piyadasa said.
