'Doctor' in town
by Mahes Perera
The band Doctor led by vocalist guitarist Lanthra Perera has come a
long way since they started off in the music industry entertaining
audiences with their special brand of music. It could be termed special
considering the fact that he hails from a musical family and he is the
nephew of the popular singer Sunil Perera of Gypsies fame, and the son
of Nimal Perera who one time was the bassist in the group.

Lanthra like them has inherited the knack to make his vocal stylings
and those of the members of his band plus the music artistry, attractive
to create a large fan base which Doctor now enjoys.
"I'm looking forward to 'The Party' on New Year's Eve at the Hilton
Colombo Residencies. It's going to be unique in that our repertoire will
include all the well-loved Sinhala favourites and ofcourse the
repertoire of the 70s, 80s and to the youth we have a wide repertoire of
the contemporary pop. We are sure, that our fans will be kept on their
toes till January 1 dawns. This is our fourth performance at a New
Year's Eve celebrations and we are quite naturally looking forward to
it."
The name Doctor has turned out to be a lucky name for you, what made
you decide on this name?
"We had no special reason. All the boys suggested we have an easy
catchy name and an unusual one at that too. We tossed around a lot of
names and somebody suggested Doctor. Although it was not in the order
for names of bands I thought it would be unusual and we chose it. The
group comprises Krishan Perera - Keyboards, Kushal Abeywickreme - lead
guitar, Harshan Jayatilleke - bass and Mahee Kuma - drums. All the
elements to make new year's eve celebrations memorable we believe will
be with us on that day, so Doctor hopes to meet all their fans. |
