Jayanga bowls Cambrians to victory

A match bag of 9 for 132 (4/81 and 5/51) by Jayanga Peiris helped Prince of Wales’ College to beat Mahinda College, Galle by one wicket in their inter school under 19 cricket match played at Moratuwa. Instead of regular captain Ashen Mendis Suchiva Fernando led the Cambrians.

Resuming at 159 for 5 on day two homesters were all out for 212 runs with Malith Mahela claiming 5 for 53 and in their second essay Mahindians collapsed for a Paltry 127 runs and Shanaka Dulaj collected 3 for 36 to make his match analysis to 8 for 81.

Set to make 124 runs for an outright victory Cambrians struggled to achieve the target and at the end they were 124 for 9 with Ashen Mendis making the top score of 30 runs with Tamith Kalhara capturing 4 for 23.

Mahinda – 208 and 127 – (Malith Mahela 33, Gihan Danushka 20, Shanuki Dulaj 3/36, Jayanga Peiris 5/51, Senal de Silva 2/7).

Prince of Wales (overnight 157/5) 212 all out (Crishen Aponso 24, Senal de Silva 21, Malith Mahela 5/53, Tamith Kalhara 2/76 and 124 for 9 (Ashen Mendis 30, Hasitha Lanka 22, Shanuka Dulaj 22, Malith Mahela 2/44, Tamith Kalhara 4/23).
