'TNA trying to fulfil LTTE wishes'
By Uditha Kumarasinghe
Former Western Province Agriculture, Agrarian Development, Minor
Irrigation Industries and Environment
Minister Udaya Gammanpila said a good number of political analysts
and political parties failed to understand the ulterior motives of the
TNA when they decided to contest for the Northern Provincial Council
election.
The TNA wants to set up a separate State and they are the political
arm of the LTTE. Now the TNA wants to make the unrealised dream of the
LTTE, Tamil Eelam come true. During the period of LTTE terror, TNA
leaders went to Kilinochchi and got instructions from Thamilselvan,
Gammampila said.
He said the practiced was that when a military arm of an organisation
was crushed, the political arm was also banned. That is why Hitler's
Nazi Party is still banned in Germany. Similarly Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath
Party is also banned in Iraq while the Taliban is a banned organisation
in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, we didn't learn this lesson and allowed
the TNA to survive despite the destruction of the LTTE.
" Therefore we have to be careful about the TNA's behaviour. I am of
the view that President Mahinda Rajapaksa should seek a mandate to
repeal the dangerous provisions in the 13th Amendment at the next
Presidential Election."
Both Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran and TNA MP
M.A. Sumanthiran are constitutional experts. They are well aware how the
Constitution works. They know if they abuse the powers vested in them,
the Central Government will abolish such powers by using its two thirds
majority in Parliament. Because of that they are silent at this moment
and are cooperative with the centre. As we know thousands of Northern
youth sacrificed their lives for the LTTE cause.
Though they are wrong, they have bonded with kith and kin, so they
still have emotional link with their lost loved ones. As a result, they
have an emotional link with the TNA. The TNA's vote reflects the
emotions of those living towards the lost ones.
