Nominations for two PC polls

Nominations to elect members to the Provincial Councils of the Western and Southern Provinces, which have been dissolved by notifications published in Gazettes No. 1844/75 and 1844/76 dated January 12, will be received at the nomination centres at auditoriums of the District Secretariats from January 30 and end at 12.00 noon on February 6, a media release from the Elections Secretariat said.

Deposits will be accepted from the date of notice of nomination until 12.00 noon on February 5, the day before the last date for nominations. If no nomination is received, another nomination period will be declared, if only one nomination is received and it is accepted, such political party or independent group will be declared 'elected uncontested'. The date of polls will be announced after considering the number of nominations accepted, the release said.
