Royal take honours

A top score of 80 runs off 97 deliveries with five fours and four sixes by Thiran Dhanapala and a further 61 runs by Randev Pathirana and an useful 43 by Chamika Karunaratne helped Royal to take a first innings win over Ananda in their drawn school cricket encounter played at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Ananda batting first on the first day were dismissed for 162 with Thamalka Athulathmudali top scoring with 30. Randev Pathirana who took 4 for 26 in the Ananda innings proved his worth with the bat striking 61 runs off 91 deliveries with eight fours and one six in the Royal first innings who totalled 256 for 9 declared after being 73 for 3 overnight.

Medium pacer Sahan Arachchige took 4 for 43 and Isuru Gunasekera captured 2 for 83.

Ananda going in for the second time with a deficit of 94 run were 116 for 6 at close.

Ananda 162 (T.Athulathmudali 30, S.Pathirana 27, R.Pathirana 4 for 26, H.Samarasinghe 3 for 14 ,Devind Pathmanathan 2 for 3) and 116 for 6 in 46 0vers at close ( Lakshan Jayasingha 30, Kushil Perera 20, Sahan Arachichige 20, Malith Kariyawasam 2 for 20).

Royal (73 for 3 overnight) 256 for 9 declared in 69.5 overs (Thiran Dhanapala 80, Randev Pathirana 61, Chamika Karunaratne 43, Sahan Arachchige 4 for 43, Isuru Gunasekera 2 for 83).

Chatura and Ron excel

Jayasundera (51) and Ron Chandragupta (67) saw Trinity gaining a narrow 2run first innings points win over St. Joseph’s in their drawn school cricket encounter concluded in Asgiriya yesterday.

In reply to the Joes first innings score of 221, Trinity got past the Josephian total facing 67.1 overs. The Joes in their second innings were 78 for 3 at close.

St.Joseph’s 221 (Kapila ravihara 69, Durand De Alwis 51, Harendra Perera 48, Amrith Sirimahan 3 for 42, Ravin Sayer 2 for 37) and 78 for 3 in 37 overs at close (Durand De Alwis 25, Ravin Sayer 2 for 37).

Trinity 223 in 67.1 overs ( Mahadeva Munaweera 41, Chatura Jayasundera 51, Ron Chandragupta 67, Fabian Fernando 3 for 41, Hashendra Perera 3 for 61).

Wesley force a draw

Set to make 164 runs to win in 28 overs, Wesley were 104 for 7 against S.Thomas’ in their drawn school cricket encounter played for the Mahadeva Sathasivama trophy at Campbell Park yesterday.

The Thomians who were 224 for 7 overnight declared their first innings at 252 for 8 with Sachitha Jayatileka top scoring with 86 runs. Wesley in their turn were shot out for 160 runs . Wesley were set a victory target of 164 in 28 overs and were 107 for 7 at close.

S.Thomas’ 252 for 8 declared ( Dulanja Silva 23, Tharindu Ratnayake 32, Hemakamal Nanayakkara 45, Sachitha Jayatileka 86, Sahan Wijesinghe 14 n.o Saveen Jayasena 2 for 65, Jonathan Caderramanpulle 2 for 29, ) and 72 for 4 declared in 12 overs ( Nipuna Gamage 27 n.o)

Wesley 160 ( Jonathan Caderamanpulle 35, Sachintha Jayasundera 35, Ravindu Tillekeratne 2 for 56, Tharindu Ratnayake 3 for 19, Akthab cader 2 for 21) and 104 for 7 at close (Samod Athulathmudali 12 n.o, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 3 for 12, Ravindu Tillekeratne 2 for 14)
