'Kala Pola' opens today
Kala Pola 2014 - Sri Lanka's annual open-air art fair will be held
today along Nelum Pokuna Mawatha, Colombo 7. The street will come alive,
as it has done over the past many years, with painters, sculptors,
caricaturists, as they 'perform' to throngs of appreciative visitors.
The chief guest at the official ceremony at 5 p.m. will be Jong-moon
Choi, the South Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
Presented by the George Keyt Foundation and the John Keells Group,
Kala Pola has grown into a much-awaited cultural event over the past 20
years and is today a not-to-be-missed event in Colombo's annual cultural
calendar. The Kala Pola will open at 8 a.m. and continue for 14 hours
non-stop until 10 p.m. the same night.
Sinhala drama festival at the Wendt
A festival of plays written and directed by Dhananjaya Karunaratne
will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre from January 31 to February
2.
The plays include Sihina Rangahala, Valentine Enakan, Chandrawathi
Samaga Rathriyak, Oba Sapekshayi, Duwana Un Dennek, Last Bus Eke
Kathawa, Doublegame Kaarayoo, Buddhikage Jeewithe and Acid Vessa.
Keerthi Acoustica in Negombo
The Keerthi Acoustica Unplugged live concert will be held at the Ave
Maria College auditorium, Negombo on February 2 at 6.45 p.m.
Avarjana
Wasantha Namaskara will hold his 134th Solo exhibition of painting
titled Avarjana at Dippitigoda Road, Kelaniya from January 31 to
February 2.
Balloth Ekka Be
Ravindra Ariyarathne's Balloth Ekka Be will be staged at the
Bandaranayake College auditorium, Gampaha on February 2 at 3.30 p.m. and
6.45 p.m.
