Some Western nations’ ulterior motives are clear – Gammanpila

Commenting
on reports that the USA and the UK would present war crime resolutions
against Sri Lanka at the March 2014 UNHRC sessions in Geneva, JHU Legal
Advisor and former Minister of Agriculture, Agrarian Development,
Irrigation, Industries and Environment of the Western PC, Udaya
Gammanpila said that these Western nations who are concealing their own
war crime reports are exerting international pressure on Sri Lanka not
with a genuine human rights interest but with ulterior motives.
They are determined to bring about a regime change and install a
puppet regime that would dance to their tune, he said.
Sri Lanka appointed the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission
(LLRC) in 2010 on the final phase of the humanitarian operation and when
the report was released many significant recommendations were
implemented, Gammanpila said.
Similarly, in 2010 the UK appointed the Chilcot Commission to inquire
into and report on war crimes Britain had committed in Iraq. Although
the report was out the UK had not released it on instructions from the
USA through fear of exposure, he said. |
