Voting
for the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year
2014 begins today under three categories – Platinum, Gold and Silver for
the Under-19 Division 1, 11 and 111 schools.
The 36th Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest is
organised by Sri Lanka’s flagship English newspaper with the largest
circulation – the Sunday Observer, with Sri Lanka’s national mobile
service provider – SLT Mobitel as the principal sponsor for the sixth
successive year.
The presentation of the sponsorship cheque took place at Lake House
on Friday with SLT Mobitel Senior Deputy General Manager Nalin Perera
presenting the sponsorship package to the Chairman/Managing Director of
The Associated Newspapers Ceylon Ltd and veteran media personality
Bandula Padmakumara. ANCL Director/Editorial Seelaratne Senerath and
Director/Legal Rasanga Harischandra were also present.
The contest has produced some of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated
cricketers in the past 35 years, from former Sri Lanka captain turned
ICC Chief Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle to the present Sri Lanka Vice
Captain Dinesh Chandimal. It has been the stepping stone for most of the
national cricketers and top club cricketers who had excelled at the
highest level.
Readers of the Sunday Observer, Daily News, Dinamina and Thinakaran
could now vote for their favourite schoolboy cricketers to take them up
the ladder for the most popular contest.
Voting coupons for the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy
Cricketer of the Year 2014 will appear in the Sunday Observer, Daily
News, Dinamina and Thinakaran from today. There will be weekly cash
prizes of Rs. 2,500, 1,500 and 1,000 for the three lucky readers who
