'Valley of Gems' launch on Feb 1

'Valley of Gems', a compilation of speeches made by the late Foreign Minister A.C.S. Hameed in Parliament, by the Media Monitoring MP, A.H.M. Azwer, will be launched at a ceremony to be held at the BMICH on Saturday, February 1 at 3.30 pm.

Help save Umesha’s life

Medical consultants have recommended two corrective surgeries for 18-month-old A.A. Savindi Umesha of Getadivulwewa, Kobeigane, who is suffering from a serious heart ailment and a cataract of the left eye.The estimated cost for the both surgeries at Rs.650,000 and the parents appeal to well-wishers to help raise the amount to save little Umesha’s life.

The heart surgery has to be performed first as it has been urgently recommended to correct a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), commonly known as 'Hole in the Heart'. The eye surgeons opine there is no danger of blindness because the right eye is healthy and a cataract could be performed.
