PC elections 2014 - postal voting for public officers
The following is the media release issued by the Elections
Secretariat on the facilities to vote by post: “The period for receiving
of applications from those entitled to vote by post at the Western and
Southern Provincial Council elections is scheduled to end on 10.02.2014.
The last date will not be extended again under any circumstance.
Government officers and employees, principals of schools and
teachers, officers and employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board
serving in the areas where the elections are to be held, Postal
Department officers and employees, staff of the Railway Department who
are essential to maintain railway services and members of the three
Armed Forces, Police and Civil Security Force are entitled to apply to
vote by post at the forthcoming Provincial Council elections. Those
entitled to the facility are requested to forward their applications
without delay.
It is also emphasised that data required to fill up application forms
should be accurately obtained from the electoral register for 2013.
It is not possible for the postal votes facility to be given to
public officers registered as electors in the Western and Southern
Provinces, but serving in another area. They should, therefore, apply
for leave in terms of Section 123 of the Provincial Council Election Act
No.2 of 1988 and not apply to vote by post. Steps will be taken to
inform officers in this category who are deployed for election-related
special duties to apply for postal votes.
The certifying officers are requested to certify postal votes
applications after personally perusing the applications and satisfying
themselves of the identity of the applicants.
Certified applications should be forwarded immediately by post to the
Returning Officers of the district where the applicant is registered as
an elector, to reach him/her on or before 10.02.2014. The certifying
officers are also informed that the last date for applications will not
be extended and that applications received after the last date and those
defective will have to be rejected.
It is possible to obtain details of the voter's registration by
completing the application form given in the website of the Department
of Elections and e-mailing it to [email protected] or by Faxing the
completed form to 0112868426.” |
