Declaration of assets - must for PC candidates

The declaration of assets and liabilities will be a must for candidates contesting the Western and Southern Provincial Council elections to be held in a few weeks.

A spokesperson for the Elections Department said that it came into effect during the last North Western and Central Provincial Council elections held last year.

Candidates will also have to submit copies of NIC along with the nomination papers to prevent the use of nick names and pseudo names to obtain preferential numbers.

The Elections Department will accept nominations between January 30 to February 6. The polls date will be announced by the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya after the close of nominations at 12 noon on February 6.
