Accessorising the positive:

Top accessories for parties

Accessories define a style. They are no longer just mere supplement; they have become as fundamental as clothing.

Millineries were as much swooned over at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding as much as the couple themselves; Gustav Klimt’s artwork has been turned into fashion accessories; and of course, there is that eternal love affair between women and shoes. Marilyn Monroe summed up the impact of shoes on women in this simple statement: “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world”.

Holiday parties are one of the best venues to pile on the glitziest of accessories. Gleam, metallic, glitters and all things festive are most welcome during this time of the year. If done right, you can easily make even the simplest of ensembles very interesting through the use of accessories.

From bedazzled slings to exquisitely crafted minaudière - bags are one of the most important accessories that women use to create a good style impression. They are not just a necessity, they are a lifestyle. Lucite clutches will instantly add pizazz and curiosity to your total élan. Accentuating fierceness? A studded crystal knuckle box clutch can do just that.

Shimmery shoes in gold and silver as well as metallics, embellished pairs, satin and exotic skins are definitely all party-worthy. A simple little black dress can be modishly enhanced with a pair of Butterfly Sandals. A pop of strong colour is a great way to make even the most prosaic attire stand-out. Ankle boots with stiletto heels with a cut-out front, closed-toe or perforated details bring on-trend chic.

Jewellery should be kept to a minimum for paillette and sequined frocks so as not to overwhelm your overall demeanour. A pair of diamond studs will be more than enough. Bold, dramatic earrings will look good on strapless dresses or those that feature a bateau neckline. Cuffs are not reserved for the wrist any more. A diamond-studded ear cuffs can add flair to any outfit! This pair will undeniably draw double takes from onlookers.

Ornately designed wrist cuff with a twist of antiquity is a true style winner. Large gold cuffs with precious stones and intricate details are highly appreciated as well.

Though piling on bracelets is à la mode, as much as possible, opt for just one or two statement pieces for parties.Extend the glitz to your hair by sporting scene-stealing hair accessories!

Crystal embellished hair clip, hair comb or fascinator can glamorise different types of hairstyles. Force a temporary side-swept coif by attaching a clip at the back or adorn a sleek bun with a diamond-encrusted hair brooch. Don’t limit your imagination to what accessories can do. You can wrap a bracelet around the base of a chignon.

A plethora of choices awaits an ingenious wearer. You can make an old garb look brand new by using different accessories each time. Choose the pieces that will work for your ensemble and not against it - no matter how gorgeous the accessory is.

Accessories that compliments the type of clothing, colour and vibe is still the best way to go, but do not dismiss contrasting styles either. When in doubt, choose austere pieces over the abstruse. You can never go wrong with that. After all, “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”.
