School cricket encounter:

Thiran and Harith pilot Royal to an innings win

Three fine performances by Royalists Thiran Dhanpala (117 n.o), Harith Samarasinghe (6 for 31) and Randev Pathiurana ( 5 for 1) helped Royal College Colombo to register an easy innings and 131 run win over St.John's College, Jaffna in their school cricket encounter played at St. John's College grounds, Jaffna yesterday.

St.John's were dismissed for a disappointing 45 runs in their first innings with Randev Pathirana (5 for 1) and Thenushan Nagarasa (3 for 14) doing most of the damage.

In reply Royal who were 270 for 8 were all out for 298 with Thiran Dhanapala striking an impressive unbeaten 117 with twelve fours and three sixes. Harith Samarasinghe (35) and Randev Pathirana (43) also contributed generously towards the Royal total in addition to their bowling.

The Johnians following on with a deficit of 253 runs faced 52 overs and gathered 122 runs. Besides T.Kudeepan (28) who top scored with 28, the rest fell to the left arm spin of Harith Samarasinghe who took 6 for 31 . Harith Samarasinghe was adjudged the Best Bowler in the match.

First innings win for Trinity

Trinity recorded a first innings win over Mahanama at the Asgiriya Satdium yesterday.

In reply to Trinity's first innings total of 269, Mahanama did well to reach 252 . S..Kaushalya struck 63 for Mahanama while Raveen Sayer took 6 for 86 for Trinity.

Trinity 263 and 125 for 4 in 35 overs at stumps ( Madhawa Munaweera 40, Ron Chandragupta 46, C. Udaraka 15).

Mahanama 252 in 90.3 overs (K. Munasinghe 15, S. Peiris 21, W. Sajeeva 35, S. Kaushalya 63, T. Sandesh 35, S. Welegedera 34, D. Seneviratne 12 n.o, Raveen Sayer 6 for 95, S. Amarasinghe 4 for 34).


Superb knock of 178 by Shanuka Dulaj

Cambrian Shanuka Dulaj struck an entertaining 178 in their drawn school cricket encounter against St.Peter's at Moratuwa yesterday.

However, Dulaj's lion-hearted effort was not enough to prevent the Peterites securing a first innings win. Dulaj faced 262 deliveries and struck thirty fours and three sixes.

St. Peter's 365 for 6 declared ( Sanjith Madushan 25, C.Obeysekera 24 n.o, Oshan Karunaratne 24, n.o., Jayanga Peiris 5 for 48, Shanuka Dulaj 4 for 6).

Prince of Wales (140 for 3 overnight) 319 (Shanuka Dulaj 178, Ashen Mendis 65, Crishen Aponso 24, C.Obeysekera 3 for 66, S.Nanayakkara 4 for 64, C.Jayamanne 2 for 36).


Major honours for Sebs

St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa registered a first innings win over St.Anthony's College Katugasthota in the school cricket match played at Moratuwa yesterday.

St. Sebastian's 300 for 5 declared

St. Anthony's, Katugastota 177 (Kakishka Uggalpaya 89, Kavindu Udapola 23, Sangeeth Cooray 3 for 26, Lahiru Heshan 3 for 24, ) and following on 115 for 6 at close (Kavindu Udapola 29, Mohammed Alaar 27, Umesh Moraes 2 for 30, Lahiru Heshan 2 for 18).
