Death of umpire Kudahetty
The death occurred of senior cricket umpire George Upali Kudahetty on
January 18 of an heart attack and was cremated on January 20th.
He was 76 years old at the time of his death. The late George
Kudahetty was an old boy of Carey College, Colombo and represented the
first XI cricket team in 1958 and still has the second highest
individual score of 175 for Carey in a school cricket encounter.
He represented Catamarans SC and Malay CC in the domestic tournaments
and excelled as a wicket-keeper-batsman and later took up to cricket
umpiring and was a respected grade 1 umpire from 1982 to 2005.
He has officiated in school cricket matches and all domestic
tournaments conducted by SLC.
