Dialog and The British School partner 'My Friend' project

Dialog Axiata PLC and The British School recently teamed up with the 'My Friend' project to help underprivileged children of Parakramabahu Maha Vidyalaya in Narahenpita.

Chairman, My Friend Project, Fouzul Hameed, Head, Loyalty and M-Commerce, Dialog Axiata, Chinthana Jayasekara and representatives of the PTA of The British School were also present.

Late last year Dialog Axiata encouraged subscribers to donate their Star Points to the 'My Friend' project. The funds thus collected have now been used to provide a wholesome and healthy breakfast to selected needy children at the Parakramabahu Maha Vidyalaya for one year.

The children of The British School also collected a large number of school stationery items over the past festive season for the 'My Friend' project. Some of these items were donated to the needy children at Parakramabahu Maha Vidyalaya.

Principal, The British School Dr. John Scarth said, "We gave this project our fullest support.

Our children were enthusiastic about this project and worked tirelessly to collect school stationery items.

With this exercise we have also taught them the importance of giving and sharing, two important values in life."

The Principal of the school, Gemunu Weerakoon said, "Our school is 66 years old and has about 350 children on roll. Many of them are from Narahenpita and the adjoining areas. We're particularly touched by the fact that the My Friend Project chose to help our school without us having to ask for help."

"Our staff work tirelessly to mould the lives of these children and empower them to become responsible men and women in society.

This gesture will help our children go a long way," he said.

Chairman, My Friend Project, Fouzul Hameed said that this project was launched to make a tangible change in the lives of little children around us.

"These children are our future. They need to be fed, clothed and educated. It is our duty to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate around us and make this world a better place. That what the 'My Friend' project is all about," he said.

Project Manager, My Friend Project, Nel Gunewardena said that just as responsible corporates, the public also can be a vital part of this noble cause.

"Those interested in making financial donations can credit money to the 'My Friend Project' - Account No: 1110031987, Commercial Bank, Kollupitiya branch. Those who wish to donate in kind can do so by contacting 0777354570. All donations, in cash or kind, will help the My Friend Project," he said.
