Dear children,

How many of you witnessed the celebrations of the 66th anniversary of Independence? I am sure many of you would have been glued to the television viewing the beautiful pageants and various traditional dancers who were a breathtaking sight. The many regiments of the security forces who paraded were indeed a sight to behold.

The historic city of Kegalle was selected as the venue for this year's Independence Day celebrations because of its many links with a historic past where many kings chose Kegalle as their citadel. Many aristocrats lived here in the early days and buildings around the area speak of a glorious past.
