Bahu questioned for two hours

Gampaha Police yesterday questioned Nava Sama Samaja Party (NSSP) Leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne for about two hours and recorded his statement on the 15 fraudulent nominations submitted by his party for the Gampaha district for the upcoming Western Provincial Council Elections.

Dr. Karunaratne in his statement to Police has said that number one and number two candidates in the NSSP nomination list were responsible for the error. The Police will send its report to the Attorney General, Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

Earlier the NSSP Leader had been asked to be present at the Gampaha Police Station on February 11 to be questioned on this incident. He had however informed of his inability to do so on that date and asked for time till February 15.

The police began the investigations after the election department officials in the Gampaha District brought it to their notice. According to the police, the NSSP has filed nominations for 43 candidates but 15 names and addresses in the list were found to be false.
