Fire at new Military Headquarters

A fire which broke out at the new Military Headquarters complex under construction in Akuregoda, Battaramulla last evening was brought under control by the fire brigade.

The fire which was reported around 5.26 pm was doused by several teams sent from the Colombo Fire Brigade as well as Sub Stations of Kotte and Dehiwala Municipal Councils.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya told the Sunday Observer that a pile of timber sheets being removed from a temporary structure built to lay concrete for the second storey caught fire.

The cause of the fire was not known at the time this edition went to press.

No casualties were reported.
