Western province leads polls violations

Western Province is leading with the highest number of election law violations reported up to February 15, whereas the highest number of election violence cases has been reported from the Southern Province.

Around 121 election law violations have been reported in the Western Province with only one election violence incident reported in Kalutara District.

Out of this the highest occurrences of election law violations numbering 57 has been reported in Colombo District.

In the Southern Province 36 election law violations has been reported with three election violence incidents reported from Galle and Hambantota districts. Majority of the cases has been reported from Matara district, the Campaign for Free and Fair Election stated.

The types of election law violations were misuse of public property, illegal election propaganda and using state employees for electioneering while election violence cases varied from assaults and threats as well as damaging property and unlawful propaganda.
