Abans donates Toshiba laptops to students

Abans PLC launched a nationwide laptop donation campaign for students last month. It will be made to the nation's brightest young minds in secondary and tertiary levels of education who are not financially stable to afford their own laptop.

At national level only 11.40% of the population between 5-69 is computer literate (computer literacy survey, Dept of Census and Statistics, 2009).

Given these statistics it is apparent that only a few citizens are likely to have computers or online access. Lack of such access affects the ability of students to improve their knowledge with educational information and valuable technological skills.

Abans having realised the implications of this digital divide, launched 'From Your Laptop to Their Future' project to empower bright young minds who will inherit the nation in the future. "Basic IT knowledge and application is now a prerequisite for any job.
