Joys of parental blessings
by Husna Inayathullah
"It is quite fun to do the impossible and everything is possible in
life" is the constant saying of Kasun.
Kasun loved taking challenges in life. He believed that challenges
make life interesting and it makes one go forward in life. The greatest
challenge that Kasun had was to make his parents happy and satisfied
about him. As the one and only child in the family Kasun was pampered a
lot.
As a talented boy Kasun was well known in the village. He liked to go
forward in all the activities from his small days and naturally he had a
lot of aesthetic skills.
He was a well-known dramatist in school. Acting was a part of his
life. He loved it very much. Kasun takes part in school as well as
inter-school drama competitions. He has won many awards for his dramatic
skills. He had a lot of talents in acting. The school principal,
teachers and his friends were very happy and proud of him.
Pain and trouble
"Kasun!, you give us a lot of pain and trouble. Your work is to act,
act and act and you turn this house upside down. There is nothing else
that you care about. You have to stop all these right now," said his
mother.
"But why should I?, There is an international drama competition
conducted by the American Embassy at the BMICH next week and I was asked
by my school to participate in it. I was waiting for a long time to take
part in such an event and now I have got an opportunity, so Ammi please
allow me to participate in it," said Kasun.Kasun knew that his parents
do not like him taking part in dramas and he did not have a single hope
that he would get the support of his parents but still he kept on trying
to convince his parents and kept on practising.
"You keep on acting and remember my boy, you have to do your Ordinary
Level Examination next year and if you keep on doing all these
unnecessary stuff, at the end you will gain nothing," said his mother.
"I do study Amma and I must and I want to participate in this
competition," said Kasun.
Doctor
"Your Thaththa wants you to become a doctor one day and if you spend
your valuable time like this, you won't be able to fulfil his
expectations and remember that it should be your ambition too."
"No, I don't want to become a doctor and that is not my ambition.
Ammi I promise you that I will study well and get through my exams well
but please allow me to select my field of interest," Kasun said.
Rita did not like her son to do what he was doing now. She wanted to
tell the whole world that her son is a doctor. As Kasun is her one and
only child, she loved him a lot but she never supported or encouraged
him in his field of interest.
Awards
Kasun won many awards for drama but he rarely showed them to his
parents. He hid them because he was afraid of his parents.
Kasun had faith that he could balance both his studies and
extra-curricular activities. He never neglected his studies and he was
good at his studies too but the only problem that he had now was to make
his parents happy. However, he kept on practising for the forthcoming
competition beside the obstacle he faced at home.
The day of the competition dawned and Kasun had to go outstation to
take part in it. He was feeling very nervous too. Many students from
other countries too had come to participate accompanied by their
parents. Kasun felt very sad when he saw the other students accompanied
by their parents.
"I wish my parents too were here with me", whispered Kasun.
Best actor award
He participated and for his surprise in a couple of days it was
announced through his school that he got the best actor award for that
particular year.
As it was an international award, he was overjoyed and he ran home to
tell his parents of his victory.
His parents were already aware of it through a phone call. They were
happy.
There were so many calls coming from his school and friends
congratulating him.
It was the day of the award ceremony held in America. Kasun and his
parents were invited for the award ceremony. Kasun was excited and his
parents too were overjoyed.
Kasun's parents hugged him and his mother said, "I am sorry putha, I
love you so much and we are proud to have a son like you."
His parents regretted for not supporting their son. It was all
kasun's effort in achieving so his parents felt guilty too when they
realised how talented their son was when they saw the way the other
parents encouraged their children.
Kasun proved to his parents that life's activities could be balanced.
He proved that studies are important but it should balance with
extra-curricular activities.
Finally his parents gave their full support to him and helped him in
his field of interest. Kasun was very happy now as he was getting the
support from his parents. He faced the challenges in his life
successfully and he displayed his talents to the whole world. |
