Dengue raises its head again

A twenty-five percent increase in the member of dengue patients has been recorded during the past three months of this year compared to the corresponding period last year.

The Health Ministry has decided to declare a National Mosquito control week from April 2-8. Over 6000 positive Dengue cases and ten deaths have been reported from various parts of the island during the past three months.

We will enlist the support of the police and army to make the National Dengue' control week a success, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

All heads of local bodies and principals of schools in Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts have been instructed to formulate their emergency programe to ensure that all mosquitoe breeding grounds are destroyed and dengue will no longer be a threat to the people said Dr. A. Jayaratne, Wayamba senior Asst. Director of Health.
