Five cops suspended over unlawful arrest

Five officers including the OIC and the Crimes OIC of Giriulla Police Station have been suspended with immediate effect over an unlawful arrest and detention of a youth. They were suspended following several complaints lodged by the people in the area over a disappearance of a youth few weeks ago.

The police who arrested the youth without the knowledge of his family had unlawfully detained him for 30 days. He was arrested over an alleged assault incident, the Police spokesman said. The suspended officers are pending an inquiry.
