Major upsets at Queen's Club tourney

The "Queens" celebrating 150 years this year saw some hard fought tennis matches over the last 2 weeks. A record number of entries ( 659 ) in 29 events with the top players in the country competing for honors ended with a major upset in both mens and womens events.

The mens open saw Sanka Athukorala beat Davis cup player and top seed Dineshkanthan Thangarajah for the first time 7/6(4) 4/6 6/1 6/4.

The womens singles was won by teenager Nethmi Waduge beating long standing no 1 Amritha Muttiah 7/5 4/6 6/4 in a hard fought 3 setter.

Dineshkanthan teamed up with Tanveer Ashiq and won the Mens doubles beating Rohan De Silva and Delver Hussain 6/4 6/4 7/5.

The mixed doubles saw Sanka and Madhira Samarasinghe (another teenage rising star) beat Dineshkanthan and Kemali Hearth 4/6 6/3 6/3 In the girls under 14 Anika Seneviratne created a major upset when she beat top seed Prabudhi Perera 6/3 3/6 6/4

Anjelika Kurera contnued to dominated the girls under 10 beating Kavya Perera. Nelaka Dissnayke beat Akith Seneviratne in the boys under 10 final.
