Training scheme for untrained teachers

The Ministry of Education has decided to introduce a training scheme to benefit the untrained teachers in service, since such teachers can not be employed under the National Education Commission, said Education Director W. M. Balasooriya at a meeting of Kurunegala district Principals held at Kuliyapitiya Zonal office.

The Ministry of Education has called for applications from teachers in government schools, pirivenas, approved schools and private schools islandwide. Those who wish to follow the teacher training courses during 2013/2014 academic periods should apply for registration during first two weeks of April, 2014.

It is compulsory for all untrained teachers to undergo the teacher training course except graduate teachers.

The government would invest 240 million rupees this year to train untrained teachers islandwide, Balasooriya added.
