Libraries for difficult areas
by S.M. Wijayaratne, Kurunegala Cor.
Library facilities are not available in over 500 schools in the South
Western Province, according to a recent survey conducted by the
provincial education authorities. The schools situated in difficult
areas in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts have been found to be
worst-affected.
NWP Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has appointed a ten member
committee to look into this problem and to recommend ways and means of
extending library facilities to the periphery.
A sum of 740 million rupees would be allocated to meet urgent
requirements of these schools, the Chief Minister said.
