Malinga unlucky to miss century on second day of Ananda - Nalanda
match

Rain accompanied with bad light denied a well deserved century for
Nalanda's two down bat Malinga Amarasinghe who was stuck on an unbeaten
90 when the 85th Battle of the Maroons encounter between Ananda and
Nalanda came to an abrupt end around 3.00 pm due to rain at the R.
Premadasa Stadium, Khettarama yesterday.
Ananda were dismissed for 170 on the first day and Nalanda replied
with no wicket for 1 overnight.
When play began on time on the second day Nalanda went past the
Ananda total with Anjula Manuwelwadu taking 3 for 59 in the Nalanda
total of 248 for 5 when play was stopped prematurely.
The highlight of the Nalanda innings was a 95-run stand for the third
wicket between Senura Amarasinghe (62) with six fours and facing 177
deliveries and Malinga Amarasinghe (90) n.o with six fours and a six.
The third wicket pair took the score from 59 for 2 to 154 for 3.
Malinga Amarasinghe went on to add a further 74 runs for the fifth
wicket with Pramud
Hettiawatte (46) before Hettiyawatte was run out for (46).
Hettiwatta's innings contained three fours and two sixes facing 42
deliveries.
The one-day 50-overs match between the two schools will be played
today (Sunday) at the same venue.
