UTE hydraulic excavators for port development

United Tractor and Equipment (UTE) achieved a significant milestone recently by securing an order for four 390D L Cat Hydraulic Excavators, which will strengthen the ongoing Hambantota and Colombo South Harbour projects.

The machines were presented to officials of China Harbour Engineering, the main contractor, by UTE officials recently.

Caterpillar and UTE supplied a large fleet of equipment to the projects last year, which included six, 50-ton excavators. But these are the largest Cat machines to be brought into the country to date.

Three of the four machines are fitted with long reach configuration, allowing the stick to reach up to 20.5 metres in length, an essential need to place boulders when building breakwater piers at Hambantota and the Colombo South Harbour projects, of which China Harbour Engineering is the main contractor.
