The
Higher Education Ministry will introduce a Cloud-Based Management
Information System to automate the entire university system to suit
modern day needs.
This is the first time in history that the entire university system
would be automated through a Cloud- Based Management System which would
enable university students, lecturers and the management to obtain
instant information online about universities, Ministry institutions and
other student and educational information, Higher Education Ministry
Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne told the Sunday Observer
yesterday.
Earlier, there was no mechanism to provide university student for
their educational needs. As a result, all sectors in universities
functioned in an isolated manner.
To overcome this long-felt need, steps were taken to introduce this
latest information system covering the entire university network. Dr.
Nawaratne said that the ministry is now making preliminary arrangements
to introduce the Cloud Based Management System in 15 state universities.
s
In addition, this system would also be introduced to the Buddhist and
Pali University, Buddhashrawaka University, Sri Lanka Institute of
Advanced Technological Education, University Grants Commission and
Higher Education Ministry.
"We hope that we could implement this system fully within the entire
university system by the end of the year.
The information system will be implemented under eight key sectors
such as student information, human resource management, student welfare
facilities, accounting and finance, stock management, fixed asset
management, salaries and wages and library information management, he
said. |
