Language training for new police intake costs over Rs. 4.5 million

The Police Department has decided to fill all vacancies for female SIs and police constables in the near future. The Police Department has planned to recruit more Tamil female police officers from the Northern and the Eastern provinces to fill the vacancies. Police officers who communicate only Sinhala will be equipped with language skills in English and Tamil while Tamil police officers would be equipped with Sinhala and English language skills under a specially designed language training program by the Ministry of Defence.

Two hundred language instructors would be employed for purpose this year and Rs 4.5 million would be invested to this purpose, a senior police officer in Kurunegala said.
