Awareness program for Grama Niladharis

A program to improve the living standards of people in villages will be implemented by the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry. Infrastructure facilities will also be developed in line with this program.

An awareness program will be conducted for 14,000 Grama Niladharis to implement this program, the Ministry sources said.

The proposed program will be implemented covering all Divisional Secretariat Divisions from next month, the sources said.

Two years ago such an awareness program was conducted for Grama Niladharis at the Jaffna Weerasinham hall. The Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry decided to resume this program covering all Divisional Secretariat Divisions for Grama Niladharis, the sources said.

The Government granted 4,000 new Grama Niladhari appointments recently and they are undergoing a three months training at present.

The vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Government is to develop the villages similar to the cities.

In this way drinking water, electricity will be given to villages and infrastructure facilities will also be developed, the Ministry sources said.
