New Year celebrated in Batticaloa

Three hundred and eighty prisoners participated in the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations at the Batticaloa prison yesterday.

The celebrations under the direction of the Prison Superintendent A.K. Bandara comprised cadjan weaving, bun eating, pot breaking, pillow fighting, tug-o-war and other traditional sports items.

The prisoners also are human beings and reformation and rehabilitation are expected of them.

It is for this reason that this New Year celebrations have been organised for them said prison superintendent.

The President of the Prison Welfare Organisation, Dr. Karunagaran, SLFP Organiser for Batticaloa Rajan Mylvaganam were present.
