Lankans juniors square series 1-1:

Nimesh bowls Sri Lanka Under-17 to 52-run win over England

Sri Lanka Under-17 spinner Thilan Nimesh took a five-wicket haul to restrict touring England Under-17 to 127 as the home team squared the three-match series 1-1 at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo yesterday.

Nimesh, the Prince of Wales right arm off-spinner took five wickets for 25 including two maiden overs in his eight over spell.

During the last summer, Nimesh, who toured with the Lankan Under-17 squad, won the player-of-the-series for his outstanding bowling. Nimesh was well supported by Trinity College spinner Raveen Sayer with a brilliant economical spell. Sayer gave away just 29 runs in 8.3 overs.

Chasing a 179-run target, England juniors lost their first wicket at nought. Nalanda College opening bowler Malinga Amarasinghe removed opener Harry Dearden for nought and right arm paceman conceded only eight runs in his four-over spell.

Earlier, electing to bat, Sri Lanka Under-17 were dismissed for 179. Right arm paceman Ben Green bowled a stunning spell removing six Lankan batsmen. The Somerset seamer ripped through the home team middle order taking six wikets for 40 runs.

England bowlers conceded 30 wides out of 34 extras under the overcast conditions at R Premadasa Stadium. The outfield was wet and Lankan spinners did the rest on a slow wicket.

The thid and final one-day match, will be played at the same venue on April 21 (Monday).
