Heavy voting for Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketers

Heavy voting took place during the penultimate week of the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest 2014.

The event, organised by the Sunday Observer for the 36th successive year, is sponsored by Sri Lanka's national mobile service provider - SLT Mobitel.

The battle for the top slot in the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Platinum section for Division 1 schools has turned out to be a direct battle between two Royalists - Randev Pathirana and Harith Samarasinghe.

They have been engaged in a neck to neck battle, sharing the No. 1 slot. Both had polled over 10,000 votes each this week.

Pathirana has displaced Samarasinghe from the top spot after the latest round of voting. Pathirana now takes a handy lead 2,027 votes over team mate Samarasinghe.

Tharaka Dhananjaya of Carey College has regained the No.1 slot in the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Gold Division with 44,219 votes while Mohamed Ziras of Madeena MV, Kandy heads the Division 111 Silver section polling 36,901 votes.

Voting for the Observer-Mobitel Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year in Platinum, Gold and Silver will close on June 13 at 12 noon at the ANCL.

The last voting coupons will be published in the Sunday Observer on June 8, Daily News and Dinamina on June 10.
