No bread price hike

The Bakery Owners' Association says that there will be no increase in bread prices despite a price increase in wheat flour by Rs 1 per kilogram by importers with effect from yesterday.


Blood donation camp

A blood donation campaign was held in Kataragama M.O.H. Office on Tuesday 27 for the second time for the Wesak week by the welfare society on the instructions and the organisation of Kataragama M.O.H., Dr. H.C.W. Ajith Kumara and the staff. Incumbent of Sri Abhinavaramaya and Chief Adhikarana Sanganayake Ven. Sashtrapathi Kapugama Saranatissa Thera, incumbent of Vallikandaramaya Ven. Lathpandure Vipula Badra and Chairman of Kataragama Pradeshiya Sabha Chanaka Amila Rangana also participated.


Cattle-release on June 12

The YMBA of Dehiwala-Mt.Lavinia, for the 24th consecutive year will release 25 head of cattle from slaughter, on June 12 (Poson Poya Day) in Dehiwala.

Those who wish to contribute to this meritorious deed could make donations to the YMBA office, No.200, Galle Road, Dehiwala and obtain a receipt.


Girl Guides' centenary celebrations

The Sri Lanka Girl Guides' Association will hold its centenary celebrations under the theme, we are delighted to launch our centenary celebrations of "A 1,000 Days to A 100 Year", on June 25, 2014. To mark the event a child safety week will also be conducted from June 25_July 01. Issues pertaining to children's safety; good nutrition, the role of the media in assuring the safety of children and safe transport will also be discussed.

This campaign by the children for the children as Girl Guides throughout the island will be lobbying influential persons, conducting discussions, raising awareness programmes on the streets, neighbourhoods and schools as well as addressing the media. The Sri Lanka Girl Guides' Association strongly feels that this is a timely exercise in view of the dangers that befall children, such as physical, mental and sexual abuse, road and other accidents and health issues that result from malnutrition and consuming unsafe food.


Free Cancer screening clinic on June 8

The Sri Lanka Cancer Society, Buller's Lane, Colombo will hold its next Cancer screening clinic from 8.30 am to 11.30 am on Sunday, June 8, 2014 to screen for early detection of specially Breast Cervical and oral cancer. All services will be free of charge.

Blood-donation at Highlands Vidyalaya

A blood-donation campaign will be held on June 7 from 9.00 am 3.00 p.m. at the Maharagama Highlands Vidyalaya premises organised by the School Buddhist Society.


Subhavi on June 2

Visharada Jeeva Shirani Priyankara's Subhavi, a dance recital by the pupils of the Eeshwarna Dance Academy will be staged tomorrow at the Bandula Gunawardene auditorium of Padukka Sri Piyarathana College.

Visharada Priyankara is the Director of Dancing of the Homagama Educational Zone.


Kidney patient appeals

M.K.M. Azmeer (50) of 143/2, Galle road, Kollupitiya is suffering from acute renal failure and the Consultant Nephrologist Dr. C.A. Herath has recommended immediate kidney transplant with regular haemodialysis twice a week prior to the surgery.

Azmeer who could ill afford the cost of surgery appeals to philanthropists and the generous public to assist him to undergo surgery.

He also appeals to a kind donor for a A positive or O positive kidney to facilitate the surgery to contact him on mobile 0775431450.


Hiruna needs help for brain surgery

Five-year-old Hiruna Udana of Mahagodawatta, Telijjawila, Matara is suffering from a tumour in the brain and Consultant Neuro Surgeon Dr. Sunil Perera has recommended immediate neuro-navigation aided excision.

Hiruna's father, a lorry driver by profession, is unable to meet the cost which exceeds Rs. 35 lakhs and seeks the help of philanthropists and well-wishers. Contributions may be remitted to A/c No. 75813181, Bank of Ceylon, Torrington branch or 117-2-001-1-0001134 People's Bank, Telijjawila Branch.

O+ kidney needed

Thirty-three-year-old, J.M. Vasantha Kumara, a resident of Nungamuwa, Pudugane, Veyangoda is diagnosed with chronic kidney ailment.

Consultant Nephrologist of the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital has advised immediate kidney transplant.
