The Institute will provide training in the food sector, tourism. IT, electronics and electrical and a wide range of other industries.

Sri Lanka-German diplomatic relations marked 60 years last year. Germany has been a major development partner of Sri Lanka through the GIZ which provides technical and vocational training for skills development and social integration.

The Ministry of Skills Development and Youth Affairs with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is organising the international conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The conference will coincide with the National Skills Day.

The event is supported by the German Development Bank KfW (Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau), the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Korean International Cooperation Agency, International Labour Organisation and the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The conference will highlight prevailing issues in TVET and how they relate to achieving social integration, inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Presentations and discussions will focus on lessons learnt and challenges faced by those engaged in the sector in implementing vocational training and skills development programs in different contexts throughout the world.
