German technical institute in Kilinochchi

Construction work on the German-Sri Lanka Technical Training
Institute being constructed in Kilinochchi, to boost technical and
vocational training in Sri Lanka, will be completed by the end of next
year, said GIZ VTN Senior Advisor Kumudhini Rosa at the launch of the
conference on 'Enhancement of skills for social integration, inclusive
growth and sustainable development' which will be held in Colombo from
July 15-16.
Rosa said that the investment on the technical training institute in
the North is around Euro 12 million and added that the project will help
enhance skills development of youth which help them secure employment.
The Institute will provide training in the food sector, tourism. IT,
electronics and electrical and a wide range of other industries.
Sri Lanka-German diplomatic relations marked 60 years last year.
Germany has been a major development partner of Sri Lanka through the
GIZ which provides technical and vocational training for skills
development and social integration.
The Ministry of Skills Development and Youth Affairs with the
Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is
organising the international conference on Technical and Vocational
Education and Training (TVET). The conference will coincide with the
National Skills Day.
The event is supported by the German Development Bank KfW (Kreditanstalt
fur Wiederaufbau), the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the
Korean International Cooperation Agency, International Labour
Organisation and the Australian Government's Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade.
The conference will highlight prevailing issues in TVET and how they
relate to achieving social integration, inclusive growth and sustainable
development.
Presentations and discussions will focus on lessons learnt and
challenges faced by those engaged in the sector in implementing
vocational training and skills development programs in different
contexts throughout the world. |
