The beginning of a long journey
‘They were ignorant of the Sinhala language,
Sinhala country, Sinhala culture and Sinhala history. The Sinhala
language had been relegated to the kitchen. The Venerable Maha
Sangha and native physicians were marginalised and denied state
patronage. One among them, a true son of the soil gifted with
farsighted vision determinedly dedicated himself to the cause of the
