'Don't misuse Buddhist flag'

The Ministry of Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs has instructed all Divisional Secretaries to check that the Buddhist flag is not misused by those who organise pinkamas and dansalas during the Poson festival season-2014.

Poson full moon poyaday falls on June 12, 2014. All OICs of police stations too have been informed to nab those who purposely handle the Buddhist flag to disrespect and belittle the sanctity of the Buddhist flag, said the chief advisor of Kurunegala district sunday dhamma schools Ven. K. Dhammadassi nayake thera at a meeting of Dhamma school teachers of the Kurunegala District held recently at Bingiriya.

During the last Vesak season last month, 120 persons were warned for misusing Buddhist flag, the Nayaka Thera said.

Meanwhile, many unknown persons visit homes in the Kurunegala district asking for donations for performing meritorious programs and building Buddhist monasteries and most of them have been found to be conmen pretended to be representatives of well-known voluntary and charity organisations, the Nayaka Thera said at the meeting.
