Plea for first aid unit at Sigiriya

The tourists visiting Sigiriya archaeological sites are increasing day by day bringing a considerable income to the cultural triangle fund. But, the essential amenities, are not available causing severe difficulties to the tourists guides who accompany tourists.

They said that the Sigiriya Cultural project is collecting about Rs. 20 million per month from tourists. Each foreign tourist pays Rs. 3900 to enter the Sigiriya archaeological site while Rs. 50 is levied from a local tourists.

However, there is no first aid unit in this premises. As a result, the tourists who face even a minor accident, have to hospitalise without any treatment.

During the last four months five foreigners were injured when they slipped on the way to Sigiriya rock. If there was a first aid unit, they could have been treated easily.

Therefore, tourist guides call upon to the authority to set up a first aid unit with a qualified team of health officials at the Sigiriya archaeological site.
