ICC bans Sachithra after Cardiff testing

Sri Lanka off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake is banned from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. The International Cricket Council(ICC) has taken this decision after Senanayake was found to be over the legal limits in bowling action by the ICC accredited laboratory in Cardiff, UK recently.

The ICC, in a letter, has informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) about its decision yesterday. Senanayake was reported for suspected bowling action during the national team's tour of England this summer.

Senanayake, who has twice recorded career-best figures in the on-going Royal London series against England, was reported by umpires Ian Gould and Marais Erasmus at the end of his team's victory at Lord's early last month.

However, the ICC decision will not be the end of the road for Senanayake who could make a comeback if he corrects his three deliveries in question to ICC approved levels and undergo further testing, according to SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.
