India's government says the country's first high-speed railway line
will be built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in western India.It plans to
construct 7 high-speed railway lines between the nation's major cities.
Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda told Parliament on Tuesday that
the development of the high-speed railway line system is a dream that
all Indian people share.
He said that the 500-kilometer long Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will be
the first to be built. Japan wants to sell its Shinkansen bullet train
technology to India.The two nations have been conducting a joint
feasibility study on routes and demand estimates since last
December.France also has its eye on the project. It's conducting its own
feasibility study.
Analysts say competition for the project will intensify between the
nations. |
