Mobitel awarded ISO certification for ISMS

Mobitel was awarded the ISO 27001:2005 certification recently for the company's reliable Information Security Management System (ISMS) for securing information within the organisation and ensuring safety and reliability to customers.

The ISO 27001:2005 certification safeguards the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information within an organisational framework and has been considered as one of the most stringent security control certification processes available worldwide.

Mobitel CEO Ranjith G. Rubasinghe said, "This is a significant occasion for Mobitel as the company has obtained the ISO 27001:2005 certification by developing a secure Information Security Management System and improving key IT processes and information security policies."

"Procedures had been documented, controlled and implemented as guided by the regulations of the ISO.

"The certification further affirms our commitment as a leading telco giving Mobitel a competitive advantage," he said.

Mobitel received the ISO 27001:2005 certification from TÜV SÜD following consultations with KPMG on improving its information security framework.

The certification gives Mobitel an opportunity to gain global recognition for its IT and communications processes while also gaining the goodwill of its local customer base.
