CHC launches Polonnaruwa Resort Collection
Ceylon Hotels Corporation (CHC) launched its Polonnaruwa Resort
Collection which comprises Lake House and Lake Hotel recently.
The old Polonnaruwa Rest House was chosen by the Queen of England,
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip in 1954 as their holiday
destination.
Re-branded as The Lake House, this deluxe boutique hotel is
surrounded by many historical sites from the second great Sinhala
kingdom, Polonnaruwa and overlooks the magnificent Sea of Parakrama. The
Lake House is managed by Ceylon Hotels Corporation and was recently
restored to portray the inherent characteristics of the Resort
Collection, a tribute to all things traditional with a modern feel to
it.
The Lake House, Polonnaruwa, is a boutique hotel that accommodates 14
superior and deluxe rooms and the landmark being the Queen's Suite.
The Queen's Suite has been named in honour of Queen Elizabeth's visit
in 1954. The restaurant which cantilevers over the lake has retained the
famous 'rice and curry luncheon' featuring fish from the lake and fresh
water lobsters that have become the signature delicacies at the
Polonnaruwa Resort Collection. Special evening menus, bicycle tours,
elephant safaris and historic site tours are also conducted.
In close proximity lies the second hotel that forms the Polonnaruwa
Resort Collection, the Lake Hotel, overlooking the sea of Parakrama and
is built on three acres of landscaped garden.
The 40 air-conditioned deluxe rooms with all modern amenities have
been completed and the extensive renovation respects the unique location
and historical significance.
