Day-care centres streamlined

The Social Services Department of the NWP-PC register all daycare centres in Kurunegala and Puttalam districts.

The objective of this is to regulate these daycare centres for promoting the quality and standards of them. It has been found that approximately 950 daycare centres are now functioning within the NWP but only 218 of them are registered with the Department.

The NWP-PC has planned to grant financial aid and other facilities to these daycare centres at a cost of 14 million rupees. 20 investigation officers of the Social Services Department would visit all these daycare centres and collect data during next two months, said the NWP-PC Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara at a meeting of heads of pre-schools of the NWP held recently at Kurunegala.

All pre-school teachers and guardians of daycare centres have to be educated immensely on the need of fulfilling their duties and responsibilities properly as they deal with future citizens of this country, the Chief Minister added.
