Facelift for Uva province

The Government has allocated Rs. 5,179.8 million to expedite the
livelihood and the infrastructure development projects in Moneragala and
Badulla districts. The funds will be spent to 886 Grama Niladhari
Divisions in 26 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the two districts,
Economic Development Ministry sources said.
This funds will be spent to develop villages with the facilities
available in cities and urban areas to give effect to President Mahinda
Rajapaksa's concept to develop the villages similar to cities. Based on
this concept the Government has implemented various livelihood and
infrastructure development projects targeting villages across the
country, the Ministry sources said.
Rupees 3,246 million has been allocated for Badulla district.
Rupees 1,478 million will be spent for Wellassa Udanaya program and
Rs. 180 million will be spent for national scale projects. Rs. 40
million has been allocated from the budget to implement projects in the
district, the sources said.
Rupees 840 million has been allocated for Gama Neguma projects. Rs.
70 million for wildlife protection, Rs. 54 million for health sector and
Rs. 175 million to implement development projects proposed by the
representatives of people.
In addition, Rs. 270 million has been allocated through local
Government bodies while allocating Rs. 139 from Agriculture Development
Department, the sources noted.
